Happy Moon

In deference to this morning’s Full Moon (0335 gmt/utc, 0435 bst) here’s a happy looking moon celebrating with school fireworks, somewhere in Pennsylvania I believe – photo from a 2010 newspaper.

And you must have this awesome forest moon

If you want to know where this was taken you’ll have to ask NASA if I remember right. (And ask how long the lens was while you're there.)

This perigee moon is 356,953 kilometres from earth according to Richard Nolle and 356,955 kilometres (221,802 miles) according to earthsky.orgwe seem to have a discrepancy of 2 km here!

But do we care? We do not.  It’s beautiful wherever it is.

And

Earthsky not only has some atmospheric photos of full moons but also gives you their traditional names from the North American calendar which sound just as good to me in an English context (not that you can call a hunger moon ‘good’) ~

January ~ Old Moon, or Moon After Yule
February
~ Snow Moon, Hunger Moon, or Wolf Moon
March
~ Sap Moon, Crow Moon, or Lenten Moon
April
~ Grass Moon, or Egg Moon
May
~ Planting Moon, or Milk Moon
June
~ Rose Moon, Flower Moon, or Strawberry Moon
July

August

September

Hope your skies are clear and your life cloud–free.
